In what ways does the pale blue dot concept introduced by Carl Sagan underpin contemporary environmental ideals?

In the past 20 years our perspective of the planet has changed. We are bombarded with news of holes in the ozone, carbon dioxide emissions that are poisoning our air, an ocean full of trash, species extinction, and the general degradation of our planet and its natural resources. We are realizing that our place on earth is not that of overlord but more as a thread of the entire weave of life, as part of the whole process of living-ness. Far ahead of his time, Carl Sagan realized this globe was more than a small pale blue dot but more like a unique and beautiful planet that deserved to be preserved and cherished because is it our only home. There is no other place for us to go. This is our only world. It supports life…all life.
