Naturally we as humans strive to distinguish patterns in the environment around us as an effort to reduce that stress and anxiety. If these patterns cannot be determined during an event or as an explanation of one, the answers are sought out for. Superstitions can originate from these occurrences as an attempt to clarify these unknown occurrences. During this study we test the theory of whether or not pattern perception has a correlation with a person's paranormal beliefs and the perception of patterns in randomness/random images. The next question being asked during the study will be if paranormal beliefs can help predict task performance with golf putting. Data was taken from 56 participants from Southern Oregon University general psychology classes. Participants completed a survey regarding paranormal beliefs as well as completing a pattern perception and golf putting task during the experiment. Statistical significance was found using Pearson's r correlations.
