First Aid/CPR Training

Mary Gallagher

Knowing what to do is an important and necessary skill for teachers but it is equally important for parents. My project was a First Aid/CPR class that was offered to the families of children who attend UCAN Head Start and was also opened to other community members. This was a low cost class that taught lifesaving skills, where participants are given hands on experience in an interactive environment. They used simulation models to practice techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking, and responding to unconsciousness. During these classes questions can be address immediately and if mistakes are made, they can be corrected. The benefits of this class are that participants practice First Aid/CPR/AED skills and they can feel bettered prepared and more confident in their abilities to use these skills during a real emergency situation.
