What surrounds Earth outside its atmosphere is largely unknown to many of Earth's inhabitants. What is known about outer space remains fascinating. Over spring break, a team of church members took the opportunity to help a community in Mexico through construction projects and bible lessons, while incorporating lessons exploring outer space. Students and children from a nearby Mexican neighborhood gathered in a local church in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico and were taught a lesson regarding the size of stars. In this lesson, we compared stars to the Earth using relatable objects to represent the celestial beings. The objective of the team was for the children to walk away with their own curiosity and desire to learn more about what lies beyond the limits of Earth. As a result, the children acquired a greater understanding of what surrounds the Earth in outer space.
