Color Wheel Science: A Rainbow of Knowledge

Nickie Hodges

ScienceWorks is a colorful, tangible, wonderland for kids and adults. Their mission is to inspire wonder and stimulate creative exploration through science and the arts. Through the construction of thaumatropes, children are involved in the process of art and its incredible connection with science. The most crucial objectives to be accomplished from this project with ScienceWorks were: 1. Explore and create art and science with children to help them draw the connections between the two fields, 2. Work with an organization outside of public schools that promote an enriching educational experience and 3. Re-discover passions in the arts and sciences and radiate enthusiasm and joy of knowledge to others in our local community. From mediums ranging from oil pastels to watercolor, students created works of art that displayed scientific principles. Through this lesson, children of the community were able to collectively explore the art and beauty of science.
