In a country that is built by people of many different cultures, it is important to make students from a variety of cultural backgrounds feel welcomed and appreciated by their school and community. Project organizers collaborated with Walker Elementary in planning a multicultural festival based on a day celebrated in most Latin American countries called Día del Niño. This is a day in which adults honor children and encourage them to enjoy childhood through appreciation of the food, games, and other traditions of their cultures. The school was festively decorated by students, families, and teachers and included food, games, dancing, and entertainment. Families from multiple cultural backgrounds participated and shared traditions of their cultures during the event. This project was intended to promote acceptance and appreciation of the differences found in a variety of cultures within our community.
