Will present a biofeedback system called HeartMath and its use as a tool for counselors, therapists, social workers, and health care professionals. Introduce the importance of heart rate variability (HRV) which is one of the best indicators of mortality and morbidity today. A concept known as coherence which serves as a measure of overall wellness in patients with emotional trauma, mental illness, or stress. The presentation will be a review of HeartMath heart-brain connection and how this relationshop modulates emotions, cognition, perception and consciousness. Diagrams and models will give the audience an overview of physiology of the heart and its integral role as a communication network that connects body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Examples will be a review of ANS (autonomic nervous system), HPA (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal) axis, and important hormones like oxytocin and ANF that the heart creates. In addition to the biofeedback system, I will introduce the philosophy behind NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) chiropractic, and the importance of the atlas-axial subluxation complex at the top of the cervical spine/base of the skull for structural and neurological health. This will include basic anatomy and physiology as well as an association of common system pathologies which correlate to imbalances in spinal health.
