The Staples of Healthy Cooking in the Home

Natasha Russell

Obesity is a huge issue that is rapidly increasing throughout the United States. Cooking in the home has recently been replaced with fast food restaurants and access to quick and easy food that is often unhealthy. Although life can be extremely busy it is crucial that we focus on making healthy cooking part of living and how we can incorporate creating healthy meals in the home. By teaching healthy cooking to children in the home it also helps families create healthier lifestyles and see cooking an enjoyable activity rather than an inconvenience. To bring this experience to reality, eight different families were brought together to gain knowledge of how to incorporate healthy eating, cooking, and other strategies to make health a part of their daily lives. This project helped these eight families to realize that healthy cooking isn't just an activity, but a life style change.
