Music seems to be dispensable nowadays, especially when budget cuts are inevitable in any school district. For most students music is an outlet for self-expression, creativity, not to mention an emotional release. White City Elementary was not exempt from budget cuts and had their music program eliminated several years back. In an effort to provide young children an exposure to music in a classroom setting, thirty minute music lessons were taught, two a day, three days a week for a month long period to first and second graders, as well as kindergartners. Four classes were visited each week, the main objectives being the exposure to musical terms, genres, and overall appreciation. By the time the project came to a close, most children had accomplished a general knowledge of a few music terms and concepts and more importantly, were left with a love for music.
