My capstone experience was representative of an internship working as a Medical Assistant at a local Family Practice. During my time at the Family Practice, I began to notice differences in type of care from my time spent here and my time spent in other Family Practices and hospitals; more specifically I noticed the increased utilization of probiotics. The consumption of probiotics across the United States both through medical physicians and through self-medication is of great interest since the conclusive studies have not yet been done. An analysis of what probiotics theoretically do to the body, an insight to the studies already performed and the potential benefits and risks are addressed.
