Childhood dental caries, formerly called baby bottle mouth, is the number one chronic disease in children. It is painful, expensive to treat and preventable. Daily teeth brushing and flossing at home is very important. Regular visits to the dentist can catch cavities early. There are many resources in southern Oregon for children who do not have dental insurance, such as La Clinica and Kids Health Connection. A healthy diet that includes a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables and is low in processed sugar can also help prevent dental caries.
