Risk factors related to violence potential have been of considerable interest to researchers in psychology, sociology, and public health. Much less attention has been paid to protective factors, which may mitigate the influence of even the most significant risk factors. This poster presents findings of a study measuring the relative influence of both risk and resiliency factors in the aggression potential of college students. There is potential, once we come to understand how an individual can counter risk factors to develop programs, which in turn, reduce the predictive factors of violence in our population, and ultimately reduce violence itself. In this study resilience factors were identified through an analysis of previous research. Results suggest that factors such as peer and family support as well as moral values play a prominent role in mediating negative outcomes associated with risk factors for violence.
