There has been considerable research interest in the effects of exercise upon lowering depression. A correlation can also be drawn between lower depression rates among individuals with a sense of purpose. These two outcomes have not been compared with each other in past studies. The aim of this research was to compare individual's level of physical activity with how strongly they had a sense of purpose and examine their levels of depression. It was hypothesized that individuals with higher levels of activity and purpose of life would be the least likely to suffer from symptoms of depression and that, of the two variables, having a sense of purpose would show a stronger correlation with decreased levels of depression than physical activity alone.
