Docenting at The Museum

What is a docent? The word derives from the Latin docens or docere which means to teach, and the traditional Western European usage referred to a teacher not on the regular faculty of a school. The term now refers to a person who conducts groups through a museum or art gallery.

Would you like to share volunteer work with friendly, enthusiastic people? Would you like to expand your own knowledge of art while making a lasting contribution to your community? If so, we invite you to join the docent program at the Schneider Museum of Art. You do not need an art background to become a docent. The only prerequisites are an ability to relate to people of different ages and a desire to learn and share your knowledge. Weekly training sessions are conducted in January, February, and March.
