Southern Oregon University Art Faculty Show
With Emeriti and Alumni

ASHLAND, Oregon The biennial presentation of recent work by the SOU Art faculty opens at the Schneider Museum of Art on Thursday, May 10 from 5-7:30 P.M. This year the exhibition includes work by four emeritus faculty members and thirteen selected alumni along with the current faculty. The exhibition provides intriguing comparisons between “masters and students.” Of the alumni in the exhibition, six have attended graduate school and two have university teaching positions. All are professionally involved in the art world and exhibit their work nationally. The exhibition continues through June 23, 2007.

The emeritus faculty is represented with work by Robert Alston, Lyle Matoush, Betty LaDuke, and Judith Ginsburg. The current faculty is highlighted with work by the University’s new ceramic professor, Robin Strangfeld, with her porcelain cast seed pods. Marlene Alt adds a mystifying sculptural installation, while Erika Leppmann presents a large photographic piece based on the community member’s reaction to the public library closing. Faculty painters Peg Sjogren and Cody Bustamante have new work in the exhibition that includes both paintings and drawings and demonstrates their mastery of the media. For the exhibition digital artist Miles Inada produced a nine foot vertical digital print that displays his wry humor and imagination. The exhibition is completed by Tracy Templeton’s contemplative chine collè photo etchings that seem to radiate on the museum’s walls with their subtle contrasts.

The Schneider Museum of Art is located on the campus of Southern Oregon University on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street, in Ashland, Oregon. Museum Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am-4 pm, and First Fridays from 10 am-7 pm. There is a $3 suggested donation. For more information call 541-552-6245 or visit www.sou.edu/sma.
