Rafting Southern Oregon: The Wild and Scenic Rogue River (#17316)
Plunge into a rafting adventure on the glorious, accessible, but very wild Rogue River — one of the most popular whitewater runs in the world. Raft the Rogue into the heart of a wilderness of old-growth forest and black bears to experience one of the remaining largely untouched parts of America. Nights are spent at three different “off the grid” wilderness lodges, while days are on the river, paddling calm stretches and mostly class III rapids. Enjoy stops to discover flora, fauna and regional history — from gold mining to Zane Grey. Explore the beauty of the Rogue that led Congress to designate it as one of the nation’s eight “Wild and Scenic Rivers” 40 years ago, and examine what constitutes a “wild” area and how it is maintained today.
No special rafting skills are needed, other than the upper-body strength to paddle several hours (with breaks) daily. Participants must come prepared to paddle on both calm and whitewater (class III) stretches of the river. Participants need not even be able to swim, as long as a lifejacket is worn securely buckled at all times on and near the river. Oregon weather is variable and can change quickly.
