Elderhostel
Portland Site
Facilities
Our Portland hotel is University Place, the conference center at Portland State University. Conveniently located on a residential edge of downtown, University Place is a small-scale (3-story) but full-service hotel near museums, shopping and great dining.
Food
We will have a combination of sit-down service with one set menu, buffet service with multiple choices, and sack lunches for those days we are “on the go”. If there are any foods that cause problems for you, we will make every effort to plan your meals around the information you provide prior to the beginning of the program.
Climate
Portland has noticeable seasonal changes. The summers are mild---temperatures average in the mid 70's. The winds generally are northwesterly, and there is little rain. Only 3% of the annual rainfall occurs in July and August, and only nine percent occurs in the period June to September. There are short periods of hot, dry weather with temperatures in the mid to upper 90's.
The winter has generally mild temperatures, cloudy skies and rain. 88% percent of the area's rainfall falls between October and May. Measurable snow falls, on average, five days each year, seldom more than a few inches, and remaining only a few days. Temperatures can, on occasion, fall well below freezing, however, below zero temperatures are rare.
Fall and early winter are times of change. There can be periods of fog, periods of rain, and periods of sunny/partly cloudy weather. Sometimes all within the same day. Spring is also a variable season with periods of rain and periods of sun - often on the same day. Portland Weather Page
