Medical Issues
DISABILITY / ACCESS
We select accommodations that are accessible for people with disabilities. However, our hotels, transportation services and other providers must have substantial notice in order to make those facilities available for our specific programs. You must notify us in advance if you will need wheelchair accessible arrangements so that we can determine if those are available for the specific program that you are interested in attending.
The Columbia and Snake River programs are not wheelchair accessible; however, these programs are accessible for most other disabilities.
Programs housed entirely on the SOU campus are particularly “disability-friendly”. Our residence hall has an elevator and many bathrooms are equipped with grab bars. We have recently installed an ADA compliant walkway between the residence hall and the cafeteria and classrooms. Handicapped parking is available and we can accommodate most needs with advance notice. Participants need only to be able to be get around on their own with reasonable accommodation. Please contact us if you have questions about your specific needs.
PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE
If you take prescription medicine, make sure you have enough to get you through your program. It can be very difficult to refill prescriptions away from home - especially out of state!

There is a hospital in Ashland which is located only 3 miles from the campus and has an Emergency Room open 24 hours a day.

When we are on the trail, it can be up to 2 hours to get to medical facilities. If you have a medical condition such as allergy to bee stings, please make sure you bring the appropriate medications. The closest hospitals to Joseph are:
