Shakespeare Studies

Shakespeare Studies

Since its founding in 1986, the Center for Shakespeare Studies has connected the realms of Shakespeare performance, teaching, and scholarship. Shakespeare Studies programs reflect a dedication to teaching Shakespeare through performance by seeing stage and film performances of the plays, by bringing on-your-feet performance techniques into the classroom, and by learning from the actors, directors, designers, and other professionals who bring the plays to life on stage.

The Center for Shakespeare Studies contributes actively to the scholarship that takes Shakespeare in performance as its subject, from reviews of plays and interviews of actors to lectures and papers on performance issues in both Shakespeare's time and ours. Although the Center no longer offers a Symposium, it collaborates with the SOU Hannon Library to bring a lecture series called "Shakespeare in the Library."

Shakespeare Studies programs bring the fruits of Shakespeare scholarship not only to SOU undergraduates but to middle and high school students, actors and directors, high school and college teachers, and playgoers.
