Approved Minutes for March 1, 2004 Faculty Senate Meeting Approved Minutes Present: Cody Bustamante, Curt Whittaker, Sib Farrell, Marny Rivera, Wilkins-O'Riley Zinn, Peter Wu, Jean Maxwell, Terry Longshore, Jon Harbaugh, Lee Ayers, Mark Siders, Etsuko Fujimoto, Elena Ruggerio, Dale Vidmar, Connie Anderson, Kemble Yates, Wayne Schumacher, Mara Affre, Laura Jones, Dan Rubenson, Laura O’Bryon. Guests: Sarah Ann Hones, Sue Burkholder Faculty Senate viewed a video produced for Channel 10 News on the 3rd Annual Lock-in held at SOU on I. Approved Minutes of Motion by Dale Vidmar, Second by Laura Jones with no changes. II. Announcements A. Laura Jones reported on the presentation and reception for Senator Lenn and Dixie Hannon held at SOU on B. Sib Farrell announced International Women's Day to be celebrated on campus on March 9th. C. Lee Ayers announced that D. Sib Farrell reviewed the success of the Career Fair, which attracted 50 companies and 400 students. III. Advisory Council Report from the Faculty Senate Vice Chair: Jon Harbaugh

VII. Discussion Items A. Curriculum Committee – Catalog changes, discussion and votes 1. A motion was made by Kemble Yates to approve the new courses submitted by the committee on February 16th. Dale Vidmar seconded. Motion approved: For-19, Against-0, Abstention-0. Courses approved: Engr 374, Introduction to Materials Science; Engr 375, Thermodynamics of Materials; ENGR 474, Semiconductor Materials; Anth 464, Cultural Rights; ES111, Physical Environment I; ES 112, Physical Environment II; ES 209, Practicum; ES 210 Environmental Studies I; ES 310, Environmental Studies II; ES 399, Special Studies; ES 401 Research; ES 409, Practicum; ES 494 Environmental Studies Capstone; ES 495, Environmental Studies Honors Capstone; WS 302, Contemporary U.S. Women's Movements; and WS 417, Sexual Politics in U.S. History. B. Discussion was held on the progress on the Faculty Senate goals established at the beginning of the academic year. Also discussed was the role of Faculty Senate in the context of change issues and in governance practices. Discussion will continue at the next Faculty Senate meeting. XII. Adjourned approximately |
