Campus Public Safety
Residence Halls remain locked 24-hours a day. Hall staff (HD or RA) are on duty in each building between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to periodically check the hall and provide support to residents as needed. Hall staff are trained to deal with emergencies, crisis intervention, and to communicate with the security officers, police, fire, emergency medical, or other public services. Residence halls are not open to the general public. Residence halls are closed and locked during vacation periods and only a few students with unusual circumstances are permitted to remain in the halls. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Staff will confront unaccompanied people who do not have business in the hall or who are not guests of a resident.
Such persons will be asked to leave and escorted out of the building if necessary. Residents are encouraged to report the presence of strangers or suspicious behavior to the staff or the Campus Public Safety Office. Hall meetings are conducted quarterly to instruct residents on safety and security concerns. Additionally, hall or floor meetings are convened whenever special needs or concerns arise.
The Housing Office will accommodate a student's request to be reassigned to another residence hall for reasons of improving their personal safety. Such requests are given the highest priority.
