Year-End Highlights
June 16, 2009
Dear Campus Community:
Thanks to all of you who attended the Faculty/Administrator Breakfast on Thursday morning. It was fun to see folks in such good spirits as the academic year winds down. We can certainly look back at many successes over the past nine months.
At the tables during breakfast, people listed what they enjoyed most about the past year and what they are most looking forward to. Miriam Moody in my office put these into a spreadsheet that alphabetized the past year's comments. I thought I'd list a sampling of what people highlighted. The "S" and the "W" responses were by far the most numerous.
- Arp's Atlas Schneider exhibit.
- Being able to see positive accomplishments and an improved faculty morale.
- Celebration of Amistad Program. Collegiality in Student Affairs.
- Excellent time spent with students. Enrollment increases.
- Getting tenure! Guanajuato celebration.
- Hiring Sylvia Kelley. Humor of Dennis Slattery.
- Increased enrollment. Increased marketing and promotion of SOU.
- Mentoring students. More opportunities to get together. My classroom. My colleagues. Meeting new people.
- New Athletic Director. New Library Dean. New CAS Dean. New people.
- Opening of HEC. Optimistic leadership. Our students.
- Positive energy in library and School of Business. Planning for long-term success.
- Reinstating Sophomore/Senior plans.
- SOAR. Student achievement and learning. Students and their growth. Student success. Support from School of Education. Strides in marketing.
- Transparency.
- Way folks came together in hard times. Working together. Working with Suzanne Gordon. Working with great colleagues/rogue chairs. Working with Josie Wilson. Working with new faculty. Working with students (six responses).
It's a great list! Thanks, everyone.
I'll summarize the comments about next year in a future message. Best wishes for a wonderful summer.
