The Jefferson State Choral Coalition presents “Celebrate”
(Ashland, Ore.) – Oregon University System’s Center for Excellence in the Fine and Performing Arts, in conjunction with the Southern Oregon University Department of Music presents the Jefferson State Choral Coalition in Concert on Thanksgiving weekend. Dr. Kirby Shaw directs this dynamic choir in two concerts entitled, “Celebrate”, on Saturday, November 29, at 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, at the SOU Music Recital Hall.
This 45 person university/community ensemble will sing a dazzling array of popular songs from Dr. Shaw’s treasure trove of over 2,600 vocal arrangements and original works. ... a lush a cappella arrangement of Rodgers and Hammerstein's If I Loved You... a blazing samba treatment of From This Moment On and a blisteringly fast jazz arrangement of Cloudburst. They’ll rock you with a medley of Celebrate (with I Just Want to Celebrate) and Rockin’ Down The Chimney Tonight; swing you with a 40's swing-style a cappella treatment of the holiday favorite Jingle Bells and sweep you up in a Belafonte style a cappella number entitled Calypso Carol. The men will swing you again with the soulful Ruby Baby from the musical Smoky Joe's Cafe and the women will perform the great 60’s bonding tune, Stand By Me. Kirby Shaw's original Doctor Doom will add a bit of humor and a maybe a few holdover chills from Halloween. A special treat to round out the concert will be a moving original called Person to Person (Face to Face), which will have an added visual aspect to help get us into the true spirit of the season.
This wonderfully diverse choral ensemble is backed up by a smokin' eight piece band, made up of some of the best instrumentalists in and around the Rogue Valley. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the Jefferson State Choral Coalition in this soulful, rockin’, joyful celebration of music and life.
