Fredna Grimland, Ph. D. is Director of Music Education, Teacher of Applied Voice, and Conductor of the Concert Choir, and she is the past Director of the Honors Program at SOU. She moved to Southern Oregon from the Dallas-Ft.Worth area of North Texas after graduating with a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Texas. At UNT, she served as a Teaching Fellow in Music Education and Choral Conducting where she was awarded Most Outstanding Graduate student in both areas. Since her arrival in Southern Oregon, Dr. Grimland has been in demand as clinician, adjudicator, and voice teacher/coach. She has presented pre-concert lectures for Britt and Rogue Opera, and sessions at OMEA, TMEA, and at Youngstown State University in Ohio. For the Winter term of 2011, Dr. Grimland taught LIED ZU TANZEN: MUSIKALISCHES WIEN! in Vienna, Austria for AHA studies abroad.

Dr. Grimland has sung professionally and semi-professionally with the Dallas Opera Chorus, The Dallas Symphony Chorus, and The Denton Bach Choir and in Oregon with the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers and Rogue Opera. She was a participant in the Robert Shaw Festival Chorus, singing the music of Verdi in concert in Carnegie Hall. She studied opera in Florence, Italy with Maestro Tito Gobbi, studied voice with Virginia Botkin, coached with John Wustman, Martin Katz, Régine Crespin, and Harold Heiberg, and was twice a finalist in the Southwest Region Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She has taught all levels of choral and vocal music, K-adult, in schools, university, and community college, both public and parochial. While completing certification as Instructor of Orff-Schulwerk, Dr. Grimland taught as a volunteer at the SOU Preschool. Dr. Grimland's goal is to educate young music educators to be passionately committed to music in the education of all students as both an artistic and an intellectual endeavor.

In addition to her work at SOU, Dr. Grimland is on the Board of Directors for Rogue Opera, Chorus Mistress for Rogue Opera Mainstage performances, serves on the Executive Committee for the Oregon chapter of ACDA, is a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing, and sings with the choir of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
