McNair Scholar Gloria Herrera
While developing my goals for the future I found an interest in Psychology and the way that thought processes influence the decisions people make. I am currently pursuing a B.S. in Psychology at Southern Oregon University. My long term goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in the field of Psychology.
Studying Psychology at SOU has broadened my perspective and deepened my desire to learn more about the factors that influence the decisions people make. I am interested in factors that influence motivation and confidence; especially as related to academic achievement. I believe that social attitudes such as prejudice and stereotypes have a strong influence and instill doubt in those they target. I intend to pursue a doctoral degree in psychology with an emphasis in social psychology and motivation. I hope to help empower youths and minorities to pursue their aspirations and reach their full potential.
