McNair Scholar Jessica Bowman

My name is Jessica Bowman and participating in the career field of Epidemiology is my dream. I have been seizing any and all opportunities to reach my star. Since beginning my undergraduate studies at SOU, I have realized that participating in higher education not only entails pure hard work and dedication to my studies, but all of the wonderful people and experiences I have gained on my way there. I am pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry and anticipate graduating in June 2011. I am particularly interested in the topics of: Biochemistry, Diseases, Gene splicing, and Forensics.

Epidemiology is the study and prevention of diseases. Achieving a doctorate will allow me to work in all dimensions of Epidemiology. Most Epidemiologists perform clinical and field research. My goal is to experiment and determine legitimate medical advances to controlling or minimize the effect that diseases have upon civilization. My passion for Epidemiology developed at a young age. For me, epidemiology is a lifestyle not a career. I wish to be both a clinical and research epidemiologist. I feel that obtaining a doctorate in Epidemiology would provide a foundation for my success.
