McNair Scholars
Other than reading books and watching films, some of my interests are astronomy, aviation, and The Twilight Zone; however, I derive my primary inspiration from my partner, Heather and our son, Elias. I followed a fairly elaborate route to Southern Oregon University. At seventeen, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served six years, most of them aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau, including participation in the Gulf War of 1990-91. After my military discharge, I left my home state of New Jersey and found employment in Oregon as a law enforcement officer and remained in that profession for six years. My experiences inside military and police establishments initiated and informed a personal distrust of governmental authority and cultivated my desire to work for social justice.
