Hilaree Anchondo

Hello, my name is Hilaree Anchondo.  I plan to graduate cum laude from Southern Oregon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in June 2013. My current educational goals are to get a Master degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education following earning my bachelor degree and then pursue a doctoral degree.  I want to become an university administrator particularly in the field of Student Life working with college students on leadership development and advising student clubs and organizations.

I hope to become an mentor for university students that they learn from, trust, and be feel supported by. I plan to help students grow, learn, and develop, as well as help them connect to and find their place in the university setting.  I want students to gain knowledge about themselves, their communities, and the world as they engage in their education and the campus community.  I intend to help students find their strengths and passions and to utilize those skills to reach their ultimate potential. I want to make a difference by giving students the knowledge and opportunities that will empower them to make a difference as well.

Southern Oregon University has given me numerous opportunities to grow and gain experience in this field including practicum experience, internships, community-based learning projects and the Alternative Spring Break program.  I currently work three on-campus jobs as: Student Life Leadership Coordinator, Executive Director of the Event Planning Involvement Committee, and Raider Ambassador; all of which keep me well connected to the campus community.  I am also a part of the campus National Residence Hall Honorary organization, which allows me to recognize outstanding members of the university and help to serve the community.  This small, rural, liberal arts university has given me an amazing educational experience.
