Annual President Ball
05/04/2007
Southern Oregon University is holding the annual President’s Ball this Saturday, May 5th at the Rogue Valley Country Club. At this event the annual President’s Medal is awarded to someone in the Southern Oregon community that shows leadership, stewardship and dedication to the community, and exemplifies the high ideals of the University faculty, staff, and, most of all, the students. This year’s recipient of the President’s Medal is Sherm and Wanda Olsrud of Sherm’s Thunderbird Markets. The Olsruds, who over the years have done so much for the Southern Oregon community, embody this spirit.
The Olsruds are large scholarship donors at Southern Oregon University. They have assisted eighteen students make their dreams of higher education possible. They also set up an endowed scholarship fund through the development of Scholarship Estates; this will benefit generations to come. Their generosity does not end at SOU, the Olsruds helped fund the new gymnasium at Kids Unlimited which serves at-risk, low income youth. Field turf at Spiegelberg Stadium as well as rooter busses for South Medford High students to cheer their basketball team on at the state-championship games were funded by the Olsruds. They are also extremely involved in 4-H and FFA activities at Jackson County Fair. This is only a fraction of what the Olsruds have done for the Southern Oregon community; their philanthropy is truly an inspiration.
