Relay For Life
03/26/2007
Ashland residents just kicked off the 2007 American Cancer Society Relay for Life this past week. Southern Oregon University is a proud partner in the Ashland Relay For Life. The Relay will be held at the Raider stadium on June 9 and 10 with the survivor walk beginning at 10am on Saturday to kick off the event. The University also has many teams taking part this year. They include Tyson’s Team, Fifteen Amigas for a Cure, SOU NRHH, OHSU School of Nursing, SOB’s and a team of football players lead by team captain and cancer survivor, Shane VanZant.
Ashland’s Tyson’s Team, led by Evie Rosenberg and comprised of SOU staff, students and families, won second place in a national photo contest this past year, and was the top fund raising team in Ashland with $9,200. This year, their goal is to raise $10,000 and they are already well on their way with $5,617. Tyson’s Team is active all year round with monthly fundraisers. This is a team that is truly devoted to this cause.

The Ashland Relay For Life is a fun-filled Carnival theme overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At our Relay, we celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams gather at the track and take turns walking laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Sign up today to become a part of the Relay phenomenon. Together we will fuel the work – and the hope – that can help make a cancer-free future a reality.
