Summer Enrollment at SOU is Running Ahead of Last Year
Booming enrollment at SOU isn’t taking a summer vacation. So far the university’s summer enrollment is 23% ahead of this time last year. “Some classes are already full and others are getting close to capacity,” says SOU Registrar Matt Stillman. Read more...

SOU Expands Annual Showcase of Arts and Research
Southern Oregon Arts and Research (SOAR), Southern Oregon University’s annual celebration of faculty and student research and artistic achievement, returns May 17-19 with several new features. This year the event will include an afternoon of live music and theatrical “Performances on the Green;” open houses in 15 scientific laboratories, art studios and special exhibits; plus a student film festival. SOU’s ‘On Being Human’ Theme Continues with Spring Term Presentations
Southern Oregon University continues discussing this year’s campus theme, “On Being Human,” with more than a dozen spring term presentations. The featured speaker is Dr. Nel Noddings, Emerita Professor of Education at Stanford University, and the author of 17 books and more than 200 articles and chapters on various topics ranging from the ethics of care to mathematical problem solving. More SOU Students Choose Alternative Spring Break This Year
Community service as a spring break activity is becoming more popular at Southern Oregon University. For the 2011 break, March 12-27, 40 SOU students will be doing volunteer work in four destinations, up from 32 students who went to three destinations last year. Read more...

SOU Theatre Students Recognized for Stage Management
Mary Hunter, Director of the Yale School of Drama Master in Fine Arts (MFA) program in Stage Management, has notified SOU student Robert Chikar that he will be one of four students in the nation accepted into the program this year. Chikar, currently stage managing the SOU Theatre Arts production of “King Lear,” will receive full tuition remission. His assistantship with Yale Rep will allow him to work with leading directors, designers and performers from around the world. Read more...

SOU's MBA Program Stands Out in National Exam
Masters in Business Administration (MBA) students at Southern Oregon University ranked in the top 25% on the MBA Major Field Test (MFT) administered recently at 130 universities in the United States. Of the 16 SOU MBA students who took the test, three scored in the highest percentile rank category (95%) and two students scored in the 90th percentile rank. Read more...

Howard Tabbed To Guide Raiders

SOU Football To Join Frontier Conference
The Frontier Conference Tuesday voted to accept Southern Oregon University as an associate member for football, starting with the 2012 season.  The announcement comes after two days of meetings in Billings, Mont. attended by SOU President Dr. Mary Cullinan and SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre. Read more...

National Survey Tracks Five Straight Years of Academic Progress at SOU

SOU Foundation Announces Akerill Scholarship Recipients
The Southern Oregon University Foundation announced Senior Jay Harrower of Ashland and Sophomore Shayne Mesa of Medford as the 2010-11 James and Betty Akerill Memorial Scholarship recipients.  The scholarship is the result of a recent $1.2 million bequest and will provide tuition and fees for both students. In just three years, the Southern Oregon men's cross country team has gone from unranked to National Champions.
Combined cross-country teams
The Raiders earned the program's first-ever NAIA National Championship today at the national meet in Vancouver, Wash. Not to be outdone, the SOU women finished a program-best seventh at the championships. Together, the two programs won the overall Combined Championship as well. Read more...

SOU Builds Bridges to China
Officials from Southern Oregon University and the Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZULI) in China will sign an agreement Tuesday, September 21, to provide a joint degree program between the two schools. Moderate Tuition Increase Approved for Fall
The Oregon State Board of Higher Education has set tuition rates for all seven campus in the Oregon University System, including Southern Oregon University. SOU's Oregon resident undergraduate rates will go up just 5.2%, which means SOU will remain among the most affordable higher education campuses in the state. Earn an MBA in a Little as One Year
MBA core courses for the Full time MBA program are taught primarily Mondays through Thursdays in the late afternoons and evenings on the Ashland campus. Core MBA courses are taught in sequence beginning in fall quarter. This program may be completed in one calendar year (fall, winter, spring, summer). Elective courses are offered in various formats (face-to-face day or evening, online, hybrid) and must be discussed with and approved by the MBA program coordinator.

Biology Professor John Roden Awarded NSF Instrumentation Grant
The National Science Foundation grant will be used to purchase an isotope ratio mass spectrometer for SOU. This highly exclusive equipment will help students and faculty research climate history within forests. Read more about the grant and Dr. Roden's research here.
