The SOU School of Business Offers New Classes, Certificates and Degree Programs (1/26/09)
The Southern Oregon University (SOU) School of Business announces several new class offerings for aspiring managers, investors and people who just want to have better control of their personal finances.
Beginning this Wednesday, January 28, the School of Business will partner with Centerpoint, a leading training provider, to offer a 2-credit course called the Leadership Development Forum. It offers supervisors and managers the opportunity to increase awareness of leadership styles and develop leadership skills. The class, taught by Centerpoint co-founder Guy Perrin, meets on four Wednesday mornings and one Saturday morning at the Higher Education Center in Medford, and includes four hours of individual leadership coaching.
School of Business adjunct faculty member Karen Clarke will offer 1-credit classes for the community in early February. Personal Finance begins February 4 at the Higher Education Center in Medford. “This course is great for the younger adult, just getting established and trying to figure out how to chart a path to financial stability,” says Clarke. Beginning February 5, Clarke will offer a course at SOU’s Ashland campus on investing. “Investing is a great refresher for all of us who have been battered and confused by the recent financial news.”
In the spring, aspiring managers will be able to study for a Certified Manager™ exam offered by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM). The instructor for the test preparation training is Dr. Dave Harris, Certified Manager™ and Dean of the SOU School of Business. The program includes three modules focusing on the management, supervisory and interpersonal skills required for business leadership. One college credit is offered with each module.
The Real Life Training Group will partner with the SOU School of Business in the summer for a 4-credit executive-style leadership development course. The program, led by Group president Joan Resnick, is patterned after executive training programs offered to major corporations. Some student scholarships will be available.
Next fall, a new cohort of graduate business students will begin studying for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degrees from Southern Oregon University. MBA classes are offered on Saturdays at the Higher Education Center in Medford. The enrollment deadline for next fall’s program is March 1.
