Master in Interdisciplinary Studies to be Offered at SOU (2/13/09)
Next fall, Southern Oregon University (SOU) will begin a new graduate program, the Master in Interdisciplinary Studies (MIIS), through SOU's College of Arts and Sciences.
The MIIS program provides students the opportunity to study more than one area of concentration at a time, and examine how those areas interact. For example, an MIIS student might focus on biology and international studies, English and writing and computer studies, or health and physical education and environmental studies.
"This is a great opportunity for people who want to advance their careers in a personalized area of study," says Dr. Josie Wilson, Acting Dean, College of Arts and Sciences.
Major concentration areas are biology, criminology and criminal justice, English and writing, health and physical education and social sciences. The MIIS program can be completed in five terms for full-time students who are enrolled for 9 to 10 credits per term, although the majority of students will take two years to complete the program. In addition to the MIIS degree, the program also offers a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) and a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (MSIS). The application deadline for early consideration in SOU’s MIIS program is April 15, 2009.
