Welcome to the SOU Learning Commons! An integral part of the Hannon Library, the LC empowers active and collaborative learning for the SOU community by providing the space, support, and technology needed to connect students to information and to each other. Come discover how the LC can help enrich your SOU experience!
The SOU Tutoring Center works with all students to help them maximize their potential and excel in their classes. No matter what your major, your class year, or your previous academic experience, our tutors are here to assist you with math, writing, and science work. For more information and for a current schedule, visit the Writing Center website and the Math and Science Lab website.
Did you know that there is a Reference Librarian for every discipline taught at SOU? No matter what class you're taking, there is a subject specialist to help you research the topics you're discussing. To meet your reference librarians, and to see all the great resources they have to offer, click on the drop down menu in the Research Guides section on the Hannon Library homepage. For more information, including hours, visit the Reference Service website.
Your SOU journey may begin in the classroom, but it can end anywhere you’d like. The perfect job. A great graduate school. An adventure overseas. The possibilities are endless, but getting there takes some planning. That’s where the Office of Career Preparation comes in. Visit the Career Connections website to explore resources or set up an appointment.
Whether you're studying on your own or as part of a class group, the LC has the technology you need to get your work done. Laptops and iPads can be checked out at the Reference Desk free of charge. The LC computer lab consists of nearly 70 workstations, and provides easy access to printers, copiers, and digital scanners. There are multiple technology classrooms that are accessible during times classes aren't being taught in them, and there is a media viewing station for students utilizing the library's extensive movie collection. Be sure to stop by the Digital Media Gallery to see the eclectic array of student-produced video content being shown around the clock. Click here for more information on iPad check out, and visit the Reference Desk to ask about laptops.
There's no better place to study on campus than the LC! Private group study rooms line the floor to ceiling windows of the second and third floors. The White Board Room has plenty of flexible space for group collaboration. Comfortable chairs are everywhere, and tables throughout the library provide room to spread out. Wifi is available everywhere, and plenty of available electrical outlets will keep your computer and phone working as long as you do. And when you run out of steam, the Hannon Coffee Shop is there to pick you back up. To reserve study space ahead of time, visit the Hannon Library scheduling page.
