SOU Surveys

In our continuing efforts to improve accessibility guidelines we have discontinued support for VT Survey. Instead we suggest that you use Survey Monkey for your survey needs. Survey Monkey is recommended by Disability Services.

The IT Department has purchased a quantity of licenses from Survey Monkey. These licenses will be issued to individuals for use on a temporary basis while the survey is active. After the survey is completed we ask you to notify us so we can return the license to the sharing pool. There is no charge for this service.

If you need a license on a permanent basis, your department should purchase an annual license. We have negotiated a deal and purchased licenses at half the normal price. So you should contact us to purchase the license for $100 rather than buying it directly from Survey Monkey at the normal $200 price. The $100 is an annual fee.

Request a license from the sharing pool

  • Call the Helpdesk (2-6900), and request a survey license.
  • A license will be issued, and you will receive an email with the details on how to access this account.
  • When your survey is closed and you have downloaded your responses, please contact the Helpdesk so we can return the license to the sharing pool.

Purchasing an Annual License

  • Call the Help Desk (2-6900) and provide an index code.
  • You will then be contacted by email with the necessary information to access your account.
  • Information Technology will bill your index code annually for the license fee.

Support for Survey Monkey

At this point the IT Department does not offer any training on how to use Survey Monkey. Survey Monkey has extensive tutorials on how to use the survey tool. Please refer to these tutorials if you have any questions at surveymonkey.com.

What happens to my survey after I return the license to the sharing pool?

Before you return your license to the sharing pool, you should download your survey responses to your computer. After you have downloaded your responses you can choose to:

  1. Delete the survey and the responses.
  2. Or, you could ask us to archive the survey and responses, so they can be used in the future.

Please note that some surveys are considered research involving human subjects. Research on humans is governed by federal regulation and must be reviewed by SOU's Institutional Review Board. Contact Deborah Hofer at hofer@sou.edu or 552.8662 and visit the research site at http://www.sou.edu/grants/irb_review_process.html for information.
