Role of the Telephone Counselor
With approximately 95 departments on campus and service to 2100 telephones, the role of the telephone counselor is very important. SOU has approximately 50 persons who voluntarily serve as telephone counselors. Their duty is mainly to troubleshoot phones in their own department and to refer any problem that can't be easily resolved to the Telecommunications System Administrator. Staff persons or faculty members are requested to report any telephone difficulties to their counselor. Telephone counselors also act as liaisons between their department and the Telecommunication Services department during construction projects or remodels. They coordinate moves, disconnect dates, and reconnect dates. Telephone counselors also prepare and submit to the Telecommunications System Administrator all requests for service. This is done on a form entitled "Telephone Service Request" and is commonly referred to as a "TSR."
