Residence Hall Computing

SOU provides student residents with many Information Technology Resources including wired Internet service in every room and wireless access in common areas, contracted technical support with InfoStructure, computer labs with printers and free Anti-Virus/Spyware software.

SOU RES-NET

RES-NET provides student residents with Internet access as well as access to on-campus network services like SOU student email, personal network storage (F: drive access via NetStorage), Blackboard (e-Learning system), SISWeb (Student Information System Web services), and the Library Catalog system. RES-NET does not provide access to software programs used in the student computer labs.

Access to RES-NET is dependent on the following conditions:

  • You must sign the Network Use Agreement. Hard copies are available at the housing office or click here for an electronic copy.
  • Wired connections to RES-NET require a computer with a properly installed Ethernet adapter and a CAT-5 Ethernet patch cable. Wireless connections to RES-NET require a properly installed 802.11 b/g wireless adapter.
  • Your computer will be required to pass a security audit by the Bradford Networks Campus Manager. This will ensure your computer is running a supported operating system with required security updates. It will also ensure you are running anti-virus/spyware software with up-to-date virus/spyware definition files.

Technical Support for Student Residents

SOU contracts with Prime Time Ventures LLC, d.b.a. InfoStructure Inc. (InfoStructure), a local Internet Service Provider to provide computer technical support for resident hall students. InfoStructure provides hardware and software installation and support services to assist student residents in connecting to RES-NET.

Residence Hall Computer Labs

Each of the four student residence buildings provides a small computer lab. The computers in these labs have the Base Lab Software installed. Printers are available in these labs. For more information about SOU Student Computer Labs visit the Lab Websites.

Coming Soon!

Would you like to use the printers in the Res Hall computer labs from your own room and the common areas with wireless Internet access? Very soon SOU IT will be announcing the rollout of the Novell iPrint client. Downloading and installing this small program will enable you to install and print to any printer on campus that supports iPrint. More on this once we have completed our testing and documentation.
