Managing Quarantined Messages

About the Quarantine

The spam firewall classifies mail into three categories, “definitely not spam”, “maybe spam”, and “definitely spam”. The not spam is delivered to you normally, and the spam is deleted. The maybe spam is held in your personal quarantine. Each day you will receive an e-mail from the Spam Firewall with a summary of your quarantined messages. This is an HTML message so in GroupWise you may need to turn on HTML viewing.

Note: The links in these messages expire in two days. If you are away from your e-mail for a while just go to the newest quarantine summary and delete the old ones.

Summary Email in Plain Text View

If you get a message that looks like the following image. Click on the button in the button bar that turns on HTML viewing. If you are using an e-mail client other then GroupWise, that does not support HTML messages, just click the link to open your quarantine in a web browser.

Barracuda Spam Quarantine Summary Email

Summary Email in HTML View

The image below shows how the HTML message is displayed in GroupWise. In this image there is only one message listed. You are likely to have more.

From right within this message you can click the links to deliver, whitelist, or delete each quarantined message. This list is a summary of your quarantined messages. If you have more then what shows here, or you want to mange your whitelist, click on the “click here” link in the message which will bring up a web page from the spam firewall that looks like the next image.

Quarantine Web Site

The image below is what the quarantine list looks like in a web browser. This interface provides options not available in the e-mail message. You can select multiple messages by clicking their checkboxes and then clicking either the “Deliver”, “Whitelist”, or “Delete” button. You can also classify messages as spam or not spam using the buttons provided. Doing so helps to train the Spam Firewall to correctly identify similar messages the next time it receives them.

You can also access other options from here by clicking the “Preferences” tab.

Notification Interval

If you don't get very many messages in your quarantine you can choose to get the summary notices less frequently. In the “Quarantine Notification” tab of your preferences you can set the interval to weekly. Note that if you set this to never, you will be responsible for logging in and checking your quarantine, as you will not be getting notification. See below to disable your quarantine entirely.

Disabling Your Quarantine

You disable your quarantine from the “Quarantine Enable/Disable” tab of your preferences. If you disable your quarantine messages that would have been quarantined are instead delivered to you with a [QUAR] tag in the subject line. See the section on Dealing with Tagged Messages to see how to use a GroupWise rule to move these to your junk mail folder.
