Network Tools for Windows XP
By clicking CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard you will have access to many useful tools SOU IT recommends that when you leave your workstation for extended periods of time, lock your workstation. This will secure files you have access to, and on database systems you may have access to such as Banner. To do this, press CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard, then select Lock Workstation. You will see a login screen and hear the Windows XP chime. The Windows key + L will do the same thing more quickly. If you leave your computer for more than an hour, the monitor will shut down and you will need to jiggle the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to wake it up. To unlock your workstation, put your network password into the password box and hit OK. You will hear the Windows XP chime again and the screen will revert to the screen you were looking at when you locked the workstation. If you need to use a computer someone else has locked, call the Help Desk (2-6900). If you get to a point where your computer freezes up and you need to force-quit an application, Re-establishing Network Connection After Server Failure Remember the times when you used Windows 95/98 and the server would go down? You would have to re-boot your computer before you could re-establish connection with the network. With Windows XP you no longer have to re-boot and lose all of your work.
