XP Taskbar Preferences

Locking and Unlocking the Taskbar:

  • You must have the Taskbar unlocked before you can add any shortcuts to it.
  • Make sure the Taskbar is not locked by right-clicking on it. If you see a check beside “Lock the Taskbar,” click on this. You can check to make sure that it is unlocked by right clicking again and checking to see that the checkmark is gone.

Turning off Taskbar Grouping and other preferences:

You can change some things about the way the Taskbar functions. For example group tasks by going into the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.

  • Right click on the Taskbar
  • Select Properties from the menu
  • Uncheck the “Group similar taskbar buttons” option
  • Click OK
