Notebook Computers

Compared to desktop PCs, the features, configuration standards and cost vary more significantly between notebook computer models. Screen size/display/resolution, hard drive size, number of plug-in-card slots (PCMCIA), memory upgrade limits, Video capabilities, pointing devices, weight, CD-ROM/DVD, sound systems and battery life are some of the features that differ between units. Expansion and upgrade options may be limited. What you will need depends on how you plan to use the notebook.

Because the components in a notebook computer are specialized and because all of the software installed on a mobile computer must be uniquely configured for the mobile computing activities of the user(s) of the machine, the notebook computer requires more time for setup and support. To assist Computing Services in delivering support to mobile computer users, we've standardized on DELL Latitude computers for our Mobile Windows users. DELL offers several different models to meet your unique mobile computing needs. If you are considering the purchase of a Windows notebook computer please contact Diana Cowart x2-8543 or John Stevenson x2-8548 and for a Macintosh notebook computer please contact Scott McKay x2-8545 for advise before placing your order.

Notebook computers take us longer to setup and deliver to you. Please allow 3-4 weeks time for order, delivery and setup of your notebook computer.
