This list will help you prepare for the migration and reduce frustration.

Review your inbox messages

Delete unneeded messages, move others to appropriate folders, or leave “active” ones in your inbox.

Clean up individual folders

This is a good time to review what is in your folders. Remove unused folders and generally do a cleanup.

Empty your trash

If you use your trash as a temporary holding area, then you need to move needed emails to other folders and empty the remaining trash.

If you don’t empty your trash you’ll find the migration will move them all into your inbox and you’ll be faced with deleting them once again.

Archive Migration Opt-In or Out

Your email has automatically been archived in GroupWise. If you need those older emails for document retention or personal reasons, then by all means Opt-In to have them migrated. However, if you don’t need them, or never use them, then Opting Out will make for a cleaner, faster migration with fewer frustrations.

Cleanup Contacts

Your personal contacts address book will be migrated to Gmail. This is a good time to clean these up and remove old, unused contacts or update them with the latest information.  Your frequent contacts address book will not be migrated so move any important contacts to your personal contacts address book prior to migration. Gmail will create its own frequent contacts as soon as you begin using it.

Change Calendar “Reminder events"

GroupWise “Reminders” will NOT be migrated. However, you can change those items to appointments and check the “All Day Event” checkbox and they will be migrated.

Your personal calendar will be migrated, but not any other calendars you may have created.
