Office of International Programs
Registration Guidelines for International Students
New students are not able to register online for their first term at SOU. This is to ensure that you have some assistance from an academic advisor in selecting your first classes. For all subsequent terms at SOU, you will be able to register yourself using MySOU.
Federal visa regulations require that international students maintain full-time enrollment during the regular academic year. Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students are required to take a minimum of 12 credits per term, while graduate students are required to take a minimum of 9 credit hours per term. An average university credit load is 12-16 credits per term.
The class schedule lists all classes available by term. Be sure to look in the footnote and the status columns to learn about prerequisites and closed classes. Choose some courses from the class schedule that you would like to take during your first term. You will need to select several classes as alternates.
New independent undergraduate students will meet with an advisor from Academic Support Programs (ASP) upon arriving on campus. If you are participating in Raider Registration, you will be meeting with an ASP advisor at that time. If you are not participating in Raider Registration, please contact the ASP office at 541-552-6213 to set up an appointment.
New exchange students must email course selections to the International Student Advisor as soon as possible. However, if you are an exchange student majoring in Business, you will be advised by Dr. Donna Lane, Associate Professor of Business, upon arriving on campus.
New post-baccalaureate and graduate students need to request an academic advisor in their major department for assistance in selecting classes for their first term at SOU. Please visit the academic programs page to find your academic department and obtain specific contact information.
