Steps to Education Abroad

Select a Program: Take fifteen minutes to change your life by working through this Education Abroad FAQ Sheet!!

Eligibility: Students must be sophomores or above by the time the program starts; have a cumulative GPA of 2.5-3.0 at time of application, depending on the program; be in good academic and social standing with SOU. See other program-specific criteria.

Attend an Information Session:
Attend one of the open information meetings held on Wednesdays each week from 12:30-1:20 PM in the Office of International Programs, SU 321.  Peer Counselors and Advisors are available at those times that would be happy to talk to you about available opportunities.

Submit complete application by deadline: The vast majority of SOU programs are now fillable online applications, which should be linked from the specific program webpage.  For non-AHA or OUS programs only, please turn in your application materials in to International Programs (SU 321).

Interview: Once you've completed your application, you'll need to be interviewed by SOU International Programs. Most students are asked to participate in a group interview, which is held at the same time. IE3 Global Intern applicants will have an individual interview.

Orientation(s): Attend SOU orientation, which is required for all education abroad participants and helps students prepare for their overseas studies and adventures. Orientation dates will be announced by email.  Usually they are held during the 7th week of the quarter.  Upon arrival to host country, there will be an on-site orientation to help you acclimatize in your new surroundings and to be successful.

Meet with Academic Advisor(s): Meet with the appropriate department advisor(s), depending on types of classes that you'll take abroad to discuss how they'll transfer back.
