Education Abroad in Germany at

Hochschule Harz Summer School!

SOU Business students have a unique opportunity to study abroad at Hochschule Harz in Wernigerode, Germany for about 3 weeks each Summer. Wernigerode is a picturesque town at the foot of the beautiful Harz mountains. SOU students enjoy the international perspective that other program particpants offer.

Program dates July 11th - 29th, 2011. No student visa is necessary unless there 90 days or more - for U.S. citizens. We have Summer 2011 brochures in the Office of International Programs in Stevenson Union 321 or in Central Hall entrance.

Application deadline and process - March 1 at School of Business; see Donna Lane, 541-552-8203, CE 102 to express interest and to pick up the first part of your application. There is a second application process through International Programs (located in Stevenson Union 321) once you've been selected by School of Business as a program participant- see "Application Forms" link. Then, you'll attend our mandatory Education Abroad Orientation to get guidance and tips from our experts.

Business students abroad - Each year, the School of Business selects 5 Business students to participate in this popular program. This Summer 2011 theme is "Renewable energy sources for sustainable development – Basics and best practice." Students receive BA 399 - (4 upper division Business credits) and GL 199- Beginning German Language (4 credits). The Business course is in English and students need to have a willingness to learn German.

Special program features! - Regular SOU tuition and the program registration fee (normally 750€) are waived for our SOU exchange students. In the past, the School of Business has been able to reimburse students half of their airfare (up to $500) upon successful completion of their program. Students experience hands-on sustainable development via excursions, which correspond to the curriculum, and engage in social activites. There is an optional 3-day weekend trip to Berlin at a cost of 175€, and an optional day trip to the Autostadt Wolfsburg (BMW) at additional costs.

Accommodation- Students stay at the local hostel for free for your specific program dates. This includes breakfast and is arranged by the International Office of Hochschule Harz.

Health Insurance - SOU enrolls all program participants in our mandatory study abroad health insurance for the duration of the program per SOU policy. The cost is $55 to your student account ($11/week) through Gallagher Koster Insurance. See FAQ page for more options (e.g. extending insurance).

Orientation - International Programs, and the School of Business, will help to prepare you for your experience abroad. Orientation Dates are listed in FAQ.
