Honors Program
Honors Club
Who We Are:
We are a group of students at SOU who pursue intellectual advancement, critical thinking, and ethical awareness. We ask questions, encourage dialog, and challenge preconceived assumptions on just about anything. We are here to create a community of Honors students and to enjoy entropy to its fullest.
What We Do:
"Provocative Ideas" Series
We gather and discuss....anything. whatever. your idea, providing you can logically support your idea, is welcome. We set no ground rules on topics or subject matter, we just ask for your ideas! Topics are typically predetermined for each event, but we also enjoy a bit of distraction! Don't be afraid to steer us off-topic for a while. Also, we frequently have cookies and drinks!
Movie Night
It's pretty straightforward: we watch a movie, eat pizza or have popcorn, and discuss it. We try to choose movies that people can relate to and topics that are relevant to today's society. We hope to see you there!
Social Gatherings
AKA, parties! We Honors students and scholars want to know each other on both a personal and academic level...and like each other (hopefully!) We have a couple of events a year that simply center on food and conversation.
Program/Club Collaboration
This takes place on many different levels. Many of the students involved in the club have taken action in helping to build and sustain the honors program at SOU. Students serve on subcommittees of the Honors Council which formulates policies and generates ideas to sustain a healthy, attractive, and growing honors program. Students can also contribute information through profiles, letters, petitions, and/or present ideas or projects to honors faculty/students.
