Peer Education

The Student Health & Wellness Center is the home of the Peer Education Resource Center on campus.  The Peer Education Resource Center houses REACT (Responsibility Education And Community Transformation) and MARS (Male Advocates for Responsible Sexuality).

 

REACT

REACT, the peer education group on campus is made up of dedicated student who are committed to educating their peers around issues that affect college students.  REACT's main focus's are:

  • Depression/Suicide
  • Body Image/Eating Disorders
  • Sexual Health
  • Nutrition/Fitness
  • Alcohol & other drugs

REACT provides outreach and education in the above topics by request in university classrooms and residence halls. 

 

 REACT also provides general outreach to the campus community throughout the year during events such as:

  • Freshman orientation
  • Sexual Responsibility Week
  • Body Image Awareness Week
  • Vagina Monologues
  • Safe Spring Break
  • Safe Memorial Day

REACT is currently accepting applications for the 2008-2009 school year.  If you are interested in peer education and would like to apply to become a member of REACT please call 541-552-8211.

 

MARS

The mission of MARS is to support men in taking responsible role in promoting equality and cooperative in relationships, pregnancy and infection prevention, and overcoming stereotypical gender roles.

 

The goal of MARS is to increase male involvement in responsible decision making regarding sexual health among males in 13-25.

 

The Core Philosophies of the male involvement movement include:

  • Males have unique reproductive and sexual health needs that historically have not be addressed.
  • Males need to be treated as individuals, not just as partners.
  • Addressing men's reproductive and sexual health creates a win-win situation for men, their partners, and their families.
