For Plan Highlights and Frequently Asked Questions

Will student insurance plans be included in the national health care reform?

Federal health care reform addresses group and individual insurance plans.

Student insurance plans are under the category of "blanket accident and sickness." The American Council of Education is leading multiple organizations, including the American College Health Association, in trying to get clarity on whether student insurance plans are covered under or exempt from the federal health care reform.

In 2010, individual and group insurance plans covered by the health care reform will be required to make those changes at the time of renewal if the plans were already contracted in place.

If SOU student insurance plans are determined to be under the health care reform, the required changes would not go into place until we negotiate for 11-12 plan year.
