Student Health and Wellness Center
Working collaboratively as advocates for student success...
Mission
To promote the optimal health and well being of students through quality educational, primary medical care, mental health and health promotion services. These services will be confidential, convenient and economical. They will be delivered in a setting and manner that facilitates the healing and learning process that recognizes the unique needs of students and is supportive of their academic success at SOU.
Welcome SOU Students! The SHWC is implementing electronic medical records; we appreciate your patience as we learn this new system.
The Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) supports you in your success at SOU.
New in 2012-2013
SOU now offers a Voluntary Student Health Insurance Plan. A Subsidy Fund exists to aid students in purchasing this insurance.
There has been a change to the Student Insurance Plans for SOU Students in 2012-2013. In compliance with the Affordable Care Act, the previously existing mandatory Basic Student Insurance Plan with a maximum of $2500 per illness or injury has canceled. Now SOU offers a voluntary Student Insurance Plan with a per illness/injury maximum of $100,000. For more information on this change, please click on the Insurance left link.
Students taking 6 or more credits (not counting online credits) can purchase the voluntary student health insurance. A subsidy fund funded by the Student Health Fee is available to subsidize the cost of health insurance for eligible students. Students wishing to be covered by the voluntary health insurance for winter term 2012 must apply by February 7, 2013. Subsidies will be awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last. For more information on the voluntary health insurance plan, or subsidy fund application and eligibility information please click on above links.
Although student health insurance has changed from a mandatory supplemental plan (Aetna) to a voluntary major medical plan (United Healthcare), it remains true: any student can access health care at the Student Health and Wellness Center regardless of your insurance status. You do not need health insurance to be seen here.
