Driver Clearance
The safety of SOU students, faculty and staff is of primary concern to the Facilities Management & Planning Department. The State of Oregon, Oregon University System and Southern Oregon University require that it also be the primary concern of all University drivers and passengers. We adhere to State laws, and State and University administrative rules which govern vehicle operation.

DRIVER CLEARANCE
Clearance is required for all drivers of state-owned or rented vehicles, or when driving your personal vehicle on University approved business. Drivers with an Oregon driver license must complete and submit the
DRIVER CLEARANCE REQUEST FORM (Please allow 3-5 business days for request completion)
OUT-OF-STATE CLEARANCE PROCEDURES
Drivers with a non-Oregon driver's license are responsible for obtaining their own court-certified record.
The driving record must be a state-certified document; no exceptions will be allowed.
A DRIVER CLEARANCE REQUEST FORM must be submitted with your driving record for proper processing. Please enter "Out Of State" in the Index Code Field on the form.

VAN CERTIFICATION
Anyone who will be driving state-owned or rented vans with passengers must attend the SOU Van Safety Training. The training consists of viewing a 30-minute vehicle safety video and an individual driving session. The video and driving session take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
After successful completion, FMP will notify the requesting department. No prior certification of any kind (including a commercial driver license) will be accepted.

SAFETY KIT
A safety kit is required if carrying passengers in remote areas:
To reserve a kit, use the VAN REQUEST FORM and select "SAFETY KIT" under "TYPE OF VEHICLE REQUESTED" and fill-out all other information as indicated.
